When few years ago it became fashionable for everything French, women around the world (including me, of course) bought books on the subject of French chic to learn the secrets of a beautiful and unforced appearance. Although the French are the champions of "effortless chic", impeccable Italian appearance also got interesting publications, which I could not pass by. So when in January I received the polish edition of the book to review - " Sass, Smarts, and Stilettos: How Italian Women Make the Ordinary, Extraordinary" written by Gabriella Contestabile, I devoted myself to this reading with great interest. Unfortunately, with a baby at home, reading is a luxury for which sometimes (or rather often) it is difficult to generate enough time, as exemplified by today's publication. After almost two months, I was able to read, draw conclusions and write for you this modest review.

If I had to use three adjectives that best describe Italians, they would be feminine, sexy and incredibly elegant. What is their unique style? What makes them so confident and sensual and at the same time full of passion and temperament, which allows them to find time for everything that is important to them in life?

Gabriella Contestabile reveals the secrets of Italian women. Interestingly, this book is not a typical download for all those thirsty for this knowledge or looking for a clear answer on how to become confident and bring out femininity. Instead, it is a personal story that the author shares with readers taking them on a journey following the traces of Italian tailoring, art, family stories, wisdom that her mother shared with Gabriella, or her beloved places from Lake Como through the sun-bathed Naples and elegant Milan to magical Rome. It tells about how to make life an art form in which sensitivity to beauty, joy and passion are as important as economy, pragmatism, cultivating tradition, appreciating rituals and cultural heritage.

In addition to personal stories, the book is full of photos, many quotes and tips, based on her own experience, both in the field of fashion and beauty. Therefore, if you are curious what makes Italians self-confident, sensual, full of temperament and elegance, this book will certainly help you understand it and by the way will be a nice read during evening relaxation or a moment with a good espresso.

Kiedy kilka lat temu zapanowała moda na wszystko co francuskie, kobiety na całym świecie (w tym ja rzecz jasna) wykupywały książki o tematyce francuskiego szyku, aby poznać sekrety pięknego i niewymuszonego wyglądu. Chociaż Francuzki są mistrzyniami „effortless chic”, nienaganna aparycja Włoszek również doczekała się ciekawych publikacji, obok których nie mogłam przejść obojętnie. Kiedy zatem w styczniu przyszło do mnie wydanie recenzenckie książki „Włoszki” autorką, której jest Gabriella Contestabile, z wielkim zaciekawieniem oddałam się tej lekturze. Niestety, przy niemowlaku w domu czytanie to luksus, na który czasami (albo raczej często) trudno jest wygenerować wystarczającą ilość czasu, czego przykładem zresztą jest dzisiejsza publikacja. Po prawie dwóch miesiącach udało mi się przeczytać, wyciągnąć wnioski i napisać dla Was tą skromną recenzję.

Gdybym miała użyć trzech przymiotników, które najlepiej opisują Włoszki, byłyby to kobiece, seksowne i niesamowicie eleganckie. Na czym polega ich niepowtarzalny styl? Co sprawia, że są tak pewne siebie i zmysłowe a przy tym pełne pasji i temperamentu, co pozwala im znaleźć czas na wszystko co jest dla nich w życiu ważne?

Gabriella Contestabile odkrywa sekrety włoskich kobiet. Co ciekawe, ta książka to nie jest typowa ściąga dla wszystkich spragnionych tej wiedzy, czy szukających jednoznacznej odpowiedzi o tym jak stać się pewną siebie i wydobyć z siebie kobiecość. Zamiast tego jest ona osobistą historią, którą autorka dzieli się z czytelnikami zabierając ich tym samym w podróż śladami historii włoskiego krawiectwa, sztuki, rodzinnych historii, mądrości jakimi dzieliła się z Gabriellą jej mama, czy ukochanych miejsc od jeziora Como przez skąpany w słońcu Neapol i elegancki Mediolan aż po magiczny Rzym. Opowiada ona o tym, jak życie uczynić formą sztuki, w której równie ważne są wrażliwość na piękno, radość i pasja, jak oszczędność, pragmatyzm, pielęgnowanie tradycji, docenianie rytuałów i kulturowego dziedzictwa.

Oprócz osobistych historii, książka jest przepełniona zdjęciami, wieloma cytatami oraz poradami, w oparciu o jej własne doświadczenia, zarówno z dziedziny mody jak i urody. Jeżeli jesteście zatem ciekawe co sprawia, że Włoszki są pewne siebie, zmysłowe, pełne temperamentu i elegancji, ta książka z pewnością pomoże Wam to zrozumieć a przy okazji będzie stanowić miłą lekturę podczas wieczornego relaksu, czy chwili przy dobrym espresso.
