FASHION BOOKS

“Reading books is the most beautiful game that mankind has invented”. Today, I can fully agree with this famous quotation of Mrs. Wisława Szymborska. When I was a kid I didn’t like to read. Still at the age of first classes of Primary School, I have read a book called “Academy of Mr. Kleks” which I have engulf on one breath. It would seem that this pleasure would accompany me through all my life. Nothing could be further from the truth. 
I had few attempts later on, but it always ended the same. Set text or books that supposed to catch my interest through the interesting stories which their authors were sharing, did not make any difference to me. I have passed my set text’s exams by reading the summary available online and other books I have been avoiding with a wide hatch.

Several years ago a miracle happened and from day to day a trilogy of “50 Shades of Grey” landed on my desk and what’s more, I started to read again. Since then I am reading everything that gets into my hands :). As it consent to for a fashion lover like me, many of the books I owe are dedicated to this subject. That’s why I have prepared a short summary of 5 books that every fashion lover should read :).

„Czytanie książek to najpiękniejsza zabawa, jaką sobie ludzkość wymyśliła”. Dzisiaj mogę w pełni zgodzić się z tym słynnym cytatem Pani Wisławy Szymborskiej. Kiedy byłam dzieckiem, nie lubiłam czytać. Jeszcze w wieku pierwszych klas szkoły podstawowej przeczytałam książkę pt. „Akademia Pana Kleksa”, którą pochłonęłam jednym tchem. Wydawać by się mogło, że ta przyjemność zostanie już że mną na zawsze. Nic bardziej mylnego. Podchodziłam później do kilku innych książek, ale zawsze kończyło się tak samo. Lektury szkolne, czy to książki które teoretycznie powinny mnie ciekawić z uwagi na interesujące historie, które ich autorzy mieli nam do przekazania, nie stanowiło to dla mnie różnicy. Lektury zaliczyłam czytając streszczenia, a inne książki omijałam szerokim łukiem.

Kilka lat temu doznałam jednak olśnienia i z dnia na dzień na moim biurku wylądowała trylogia „50 twarzy Greya”, która na nowo zaszczepiła we mnie zamiłowanie do czytania. Od tamtej pory pochłaniam wszystko co wpadnie mi w ręce :). Jak przystało na miłośniczkę mody, wiele książek jest właśnie związanych z ta tematyką. Dlatego też przygotowałam dla was moje skromne zestawienie 5 książek, które każda miłośniczka mody powinna przeczytać :).

1. ”HOW TO BE PARISIAN”

Four friends and one book has to mean something good! A model, a writer, journalist and film producer share with us what it really means to be a Parisian. Do stereotypes, that we live about in regards to French chic are still true or is it already a myth? Each of them share her thoughts and reveals the world of contemporary Parisian. 

Light and pleasant book, which in a rather funny way leads us through all chapters in order to show us that Parisian chic can be learned.

1. „BADZ PARYZANKA GDZIEKOLWIEK JESTES”

Cztery przyjaciółki i jednak książka to musi znaczyć coś szałowego! Modelka, pisarka, dziennikarka i producentka filmowa dzielą się z nami co tak naprawdę znaczy być paryżanką. Czy stereotypy, którymi żyjemy odnośnie francuskiego szyku to nadal prawda czy już mit? Każda z nich dzieli swoimi spostrzeżeniami i odkrywa przed nami świat współczesnej paryżanki.

Lekka i przyjemna książka, która w dość zabawny sposób prowadzi nas poprzez wszystkie rodzialy mające na celu pokazać nam, że paryskiego szyku można się nauczyć.

2. „THE VOGUE FACTOR”

Kirstie Clements was a chief editor of the Australian edition of Vogue magazine. However, precisely in 2012, after 13 years of dedication and devotion, she has been fired. That’s when she decides to write a book that will reveal to the world of all hitherto untold secrets behind this fascinating and intriguing, but how brutal the fashion world, which does not count scruples. 

Very nice book in which we learn the history of Kristie Clements, but also learn the truth about how the business world of fashion is ruthless, and how many sacrifices it costs to stay in it.

2. „VOGUE ZA KULISAMI SWIATA MODY”

Kirstie Clements to była redaktor naczelna Australijskiego wydania magazynu Vogue. Niemniej jednak dokładnie w 2012 roku, po 13 latach poświęcenia i oddania, zostaje zwolniona. Wtedy też decyduje się napisać książkę, która odkryje przed światem wszystkie dotąd niewypowiedziane tajemnice kryjące się za tym fascynującym oraz intrygującym, ale jakże brutalnym światem mody, w którym nie liczą się skrupuły.

Bardzo przyjemna książka, w której możemy poznać historię Kristie Clements, ale i również dowiedzieć się prawdy na temat tego jak bezwgledny jest świat biznesu modowego oraz ile poświęceń i wyrzeczeń kosztuje aby się w nim utrzymać. 

3. „COCO CHANEL – THE LEGEND AND THE LIFE”

Coco Chanel is one of the most mysterious figures in the fashion world. Many facts that are known to us, in fact, do not always match with the truth. Chanel was not the person to the skin faiths and many things whether it's related to her childhood spent in an orphanage or even a story behind her nickname "Coco" finds many versions. Although the true story of the existence of this legendary designer has multiple versions, this book in some way reveals to us its secrets. In addition to life itself Mademoiselle, in the book is devoted a large part of the history of the famous Chanel N°5, a little black dress and jewelry at the head of the famous necklace Comete, which was inspired by the starry sky over Paris.

I met with many opinions about that book. Many considered it too boring. Well, you have to like the history because opting for this book is based on the desire to know the life of the famous Chanel, who lived in the time of war, which is associated with a lot of information related to that period, which also have their place in the book. As for me, the contents of the information was more balanced and read it with great interest.

3. „COCO CHANEL – LEGENDA I ZYCIE”

Coco Chanel to jedna z bardziej tajemniczych osobistości w świecie mody. Wiele faktów, które są nam znane w rzeczywistości nie zawsze zgadzają się z prawdą. Chanel nie była osobą skorą do wyznań a wiele rzeczy czy to związanych z jej dzieciństwem spędzonym w sierocińcu czy nawet historia pochodzonie przezwiska „Coco” odnajduje wiele wersji. Pomimo iż prawdziwa historia istnienia tej legendarnej projektantki ma wiele wersji, to książka w jakimś stopniu odsłania przed nami jej tajemnice. Oprócz życia samej Mademoiselle, w książce znajduje się spora cześć poświecona historii słynnych perfum Chanel N°5, małej czarnej oraz biżuterii na czele ze słynny naszyjnik Comete, do którego inspiracją było gwieździste niebo nad Paryżem.

Spotkałam się z wieloma opiniami na temat tej że książki. Wiele z nich uznało ja za nudna. Cóż, historię trzeba lubić dlatego decydując się na tę książkę, podstawą jest chęć poznania życia słynnej Chanel, która żyła w czasach wojny co wiąże się z wieloma informacjami powiązanymi z tamtym okresem, która mają swoje miejsce również w książce. Jak dla mnie zawartość informacji była wywarzona i przeczytałam ją z ogromnym zainteresowaniem dlatego gorąco polecam.

4. „ELEMENTARY OF STYLE”

Many of you might had a chance to read my review of this particular book (here). Its author Katarzyna Tusk shares with readers advice in regards to fashion that is based on her own experience. Chapters in the book have been meticulously sketched allowing in a very pleasant way to read this book. This book contains among others advice that in an easy and simple way are meant to help us complete our wardrobe with basic elements that are the starting point to our outfits. However, the main message is that the elegance and style is for everyone and it is enough to just follow a few basic rules. What are those rules? The answer can be found in the book :)

4. „ELEMENTARZ STYLU”

Wiele z was mogło mieć już okazję przeczytać moją recenzję tej właśnie książki (tutaj). Jej autorka Katarzyna Tusk dzieli się z czytelnikami poradami w tematyce mody, które opiera na swoim własnym doświadczeniu. Rozdziały zawarte w książce zostały skrupulatnie rozrysowane co pozwala w bardzo przyjemny sposób oddać się tej lekturze. Znaleźć w niej można między innymi porady, które w łatwy i prosty sposób pomogą nam skompletować swoją garderobę w podstawowe elementy czyli te, które będą stanowiły bazę naszych stylizacji. Niemniej jednak jej głównym przesłaniem jest to, że elegancja i styl jest dla każdego a wystarczy do tego jedynie przestrzegać kilka podstawowych zasad. Jakich? Odpowiedź znajdziecie w książce :)

Pięknie oprawiona, płynnie i prosto napisana książka, która przypuszczam większość jej czytelniczek wprowadzi w potrzebę przesortowania swojej garderoby :)

5. „LOVE X STYLE X LIFE”

Author of the book - Garance Dore , a French photographer, illustrator and founder of the blog, shares with us her experiences and insights. The book is a kind of journey through the land of Garance Dore, who also shares her edition of fashion along the beautiful photographs but also repeal before us some secrets of her life.

Light and funny book that teaches us not only fashion, but also delves into the difficult areas of life such as love. Atypical guide that will surely to steal the hearts of many women.

5. „LOVE X STYLE X LIFE”

Autorka książki – Garance Dore, francuska fotografka, ilustratorka oraz założycielka bloga, która w książce dzieli się z nami swoimi doświadczeniami oraz spostrzeżeniami. Książka stanowi swojego rodzaju podróż po krainie Garance Dore, która dzieli się z nami modą w swoim wydaniu ukazując przy tym piękne fotografie ale rowniez uchyla przed nami rabek tajemnicy swojego zycia.  

Lekka i zabawna książka, która uczy nas nie tylko mody, ale i również zagłębia się w trudniejsze sfery życia takie jak miłość. Nietypowy poradnik, który z pewnością skradnie serce wielu kobiet.
