FASHION MOVIES

Friday evening is the time I mostly spend relaxing. As I have probably mentioned to you already, I am not a “party” person. I value the silence and relaxation in my home environment with the company of a good book or with a bowl of popcorn watching one of my favourite movies. This week I have started my weekend relaxation on Thursday evening when with glass of white wine in my hand I was watching “Why not” (polish romantic comedy). I am unable to tell you how many times I have watched this movie as the number is still growing!

List of my favourite romantic comedy is very long, but I will share the detailed list of it with you in the next post from the cycle of “movies” :). Today, I have prepared for you my modest list of 5 movies that every fashion lover should watch. Are you ready? Let’s start then! :)

Piątkowy wieczór to dla mnie moment na wymarzony relaks. Jak już pewnie wam kiedyś wspominałam, nie należę do zbytnio „imprezowych” osób. Cenię sobie spokój, i relaks w domowym zaciszu w towarzystwie dobrej książki albo z miską popkornu zapatrzona w jeden z wielu moich ulubionych filmów. W tym tygodniu zaczęłam weekend już od czwartkowego wieczoru kiedy to z lampką białego wina, wzdychałam oglądając „Dlaczego nie”. Nie powiem wam ile razy widziałam już ten film (oraz wszystkie inne komedie z Maćkiem Zakoscielnym :)), ponieważ liczba ta stale rośnie!

Lista moich ulubionych komedii romantycznych jest naprawdę długa, ale szczegółowy spis zdradzę wam w kolejnym wpisie z cyklu „filmy” :).  Dzisiaj natomiast przygotowałam dla was moją skromną listę 5 filmów, które każda miłośniczka mody powinna obejrzeć. Gotowe? No to zaczynamy! :)

1. "THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA"

Anne Hathaway stars as Andrea (Andy) Sachs, beginning journalist who land a job at prestigious magazine “Runway”. For intelligent Andy, who value the family and friends as to be the most important aspects of her life, new challenge appears to be more difficult than she thought it would be. Months spent along her ruthless editor Miranda Priestly played by Meryl Streep, slowly starts to impact not only her career, but also her private life. One day when she is being asked to go to Paris where the fashion week will take place, Andy has to face the most difficult decision in her life where she has to choose between her career life and the love of her life.

It is a movie that in quite specific way presents the price that you have to pay in order to work in fashion industry. It is therefore very enjoyable and light, ideal for a girls evening! :)

1. „DIABEŁ UBIERA SIĘ U PRADY"

Anne Hatheway wciela się w rolę Andrea-y (Andy) Sachs, początkującej dziennikarki, która swoje zatrudnienie znajduje w redakcji czasopisma mody „Runway”. Dla inteligetnej Andy -  dla której najważniejszymi aspektami w życiu była zawsze rodzina i przyjaciele, nowe wyzwanie okazuje się być dużo trudniejsze niż myślała. Miesiące spędzone u boku jej bezwzględnej szefowej Mirandy Priestly, w roli której możemy zobaczyć Meryl Streep, powoli zaczynają wpływać nie tylko na jej karierę, ale również i życie osobiste. Kiedy pewnego dnia przychodzi jej wyjechać do Paryża gdzie odbywać się ma pokaz mody, Andy staje przed najtrudniejszym wyborem w jej życiu kiedy to na szali waży się jej życie zawodowe z miłością jej życia.

Jest to film, który w dość barwny sposób pokazuje jaką cenę trzeba płacić pracując w modzie. Przyjemny i lekki film idealny na babskie wieczory :)

2. "SEX AND THE CITY"

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw – a writer, who writes her book about love. This movie is a full-length continuation of the TV series that started in the 90s. Carrie is a fashion lover who also writes articles for Vogue magazine. When she is about to face her 40, she decides to get married with her long-standing partner Mr Big. Together with her three girlfriends; Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) she starts the preparation for that big day. Thanks to the photo-shoot for Vogue, the small wedding ceremony becomes a huge wedding plan for over 200 guests. Will everything go along the plan?

To all fashion lovers – it is a movie for you. Light and funny that will allow you to move in to the world of Carrie and sometimes her slightly complicated life :).

2."SEKS W WIELKIM MIEŚCIE"

Sarah Jessica Parker jako Carrie Bradshaw czyli pisarka, która w swoich książkach uwiecznia historie o poszukiwaniu miłości. Film to pełnometrażowa kontynuacja serialu, który swoje początki miał w latach 90. Carrie, miłośniczka mody piszące artykuły dla magazynu Vogue, która stając u progu swojej 40, poostanawia wyjść za mąż za swojego wieloletniego partnera Big-a. Razem w towarzystwie swoich trzech przyjaciółek; Samanthy (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) oraz Mirandy (Cynthia Nixon) przygotowują się do tego wielkiego wydarzenia, które za sprawą sesji zdjęciowej dla samego Vogue-a, zamienia się z małej ceremonii zaślubin w wesele na ponad 200 gości. Czy wszystko pójdzie zgodnie z planem?

Do wszystkich milosniczego mody – to film dla was. Lekki, zabawny, który na chwilę pozwala nam przenieść się do świata pewnej siebie Carrie i jej czasami skomplikowanego życia :).

3. "SEPTEMBER ISSUE"

It is a documental movie from 2009 which presents the “behind the scenes” of one of the most established and well known fashion magazine – Vogue. The movie shows how the September issue is being created. Why September? Fashion world takes this month as the most important one as this is when the fall season starts and usually the September issue have the highest number of pages. It is also the calendar start of the new year in fashion. The movie gives us a little insight to the Vogue’s Chief editor Anna Wintour and the creative director Grace Coddington who face their day to day duties starting from planning the photo shoots, booking models or choosing the final images and articles.

If you want to know how the magazine job really looks like, how much dedication and hard work is being put to finalise each issue of the prestigious Vogue magazine, then this movie is definitely for you. 

3. "WRZEŚNIOWE WYDANIE"

Film dokumentalny z 2009 roku, który pokazuje kulisy powstawania jednego z największych pism o modzie, magazynu Vogue. Film pokazuje jak powstaje wrześniowe wydanie tego miesięcznika. Dlaczego akurat wrzesień? Jest to najważniejszy miesiąc w świecie mody gdyż to właśnie wtedy powstaje najgrubszy egzemplarz w ciągu roku, który tym samym jest rozpoczęciem sezonu jesień - zima. Świat mody opisuje ten miesiąc jako kalendarzowy nowy rok. Film uchyla rabka tajemnicy pracy naczelnej Anny Wintour oraz dyrektor kreatywnej – Grace Coddington, które zmagają się ze swoim codziennym obowiązkami począwszy od planowania sesji zdjęciowych, modelek do wyboru zdjęć oraz artykułów.

Jeżeli chcecie wiedzieć  jak naprawdę wygląda praca w magazynie modowym, ile poświęcenia i pracy jest wkładane aby dopiąć wszystko na ostatni guzik, to ten film jest dla was.  

4. "THE INTERN"

Anne Hathaway stars as Jules Ostin, resourceful founder and CEO of the online shop “About the Fit”. It appears as she has everything under control. Unfortunately, the ongoing stress she has to face at work, impacts the family life of Jules. In the same time her company hire retired Ben (Robert De Niro) as the intern. His valuable experience that he has gained in the industry made 70 years old Ben become a support man for everyone in the company and after a certain time even for Jules.

Funny and easy movie perfect for a Saturday evening. It is a great example of having your passion and job as one. Therefore, it also shows that it is not worth of putting your career before the family life as it might end up that your job will be the only thing left.

4. "PRAKTYKANT"

Anne Hathaway jako Jules Ostin, przedsiębiorcza założycielka oraz właścicielka internetowego sklepu z ubraniami „About the Fit”. Wydawać by się mogło, że ma ona wszystko pod kontrola. Niestety, ciągła gonitwa w pracy sprawia, że Jules poświęca coraz mniej czasu swojej rodzinie. W tym samy  czasie w firmie rozpoczyna staż emerytowany Ben (Robert De Niro). Wieloletnie doświadczenie 70-letniego Bena sprawia, że staje się on wsparciem dla pracowników a po czasie nawet dla samej Jules.

Przyjemny i lekki film, który jest również dobrym przykładem tego że można łączyć pasję z praca. Pokazuje on również jak ważne jest aby nie przekładać kariery ponad swoje życie osobiste, bo może się okazać, że z czasem zostanie nam tylko praca.

5. "BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S"

The last one, but my favourite – classic with beautiful Audrey Hepburn who played the main character role of Holly Golightly. Young women who surely knows how to use her charm to attract men. Dreaming about the luxury and beautiful clothes, Holly tries to find a reach husband. The same time handsome Paul Varjak (George Peppard) who wants to become a writer moves in to her apartment building. There is something that those two have in common – Paul has a relationship with a very wealthy woman. Since the very first time they meet, there is a connection between them which after a certain time will change into love.

It is a movie for all the lovers of classical fashion where the outfits of the main character are the quintessence of elegance. It is mainly the romantic comedy which finds its place on the very first position on my list :)

5. "ŚNIADANIE U TIFFANY'EGO"

Ostatni, ale chyba mój ulubiony – klasyk z przepiękną Audrey Hepburn, która wciela się w rolę głównej bohaterki Holly Golightly. Młoda kobieta, która z pewnością wie jak oczarować mężczyznę. Marząca o luksusie, pięknych ubraniach Holly, za wszelką cenę próbuje odnaleźć bogatego męża. W tym samym czasie do bloku, w którym mieszka wprowadza się przystojny, pragnący zostać pisarzem Paul Varjak (George Peppard) , który również nie stroni od towarzystwa swojej bogatej sponsorki. Już od pierwszej chwili spotkania tych dwoje nawiązuje nić porozumienia, która z czasem zacznie przeradzać się w miłość.

Jest to film dla wszystkich miłośniczek mody klasycznej, w którym stroje głównej bohaterki to sama kwintesencja elegancji. Jest to przede wszystkim komedia romantyczna, która znajduję się u mnie na pierwszym miejscu z klasyki gatunku :)
